Click here Derek Chauvin faces 40 years in prison for the murder of George Floyd – Many Northern Californians were watching and listening when the guilty verdict was read at Derek Chauvin's trial for the murder of George Floyd. Stevante Clark, brother of Stephon Clark, fell to his knees when he heard the verdict. Other Northern Californians reacted with relief and continued calls to action. But Chauvin isn't expected to be sentenced for another 8 weeks, and at the same time, his defense lawyers are likely to appeal. With the new charges come new questions and concerns about the next steps. Minnesota's sentencing guidelines indicate that for someone with no prior convictions like Chauvin, the recommendation is 12.5 years for each murder charge, as well as four years for manslaughter. However, according to Minnesota law, he only serves a sentence for the most severe charge. (Staff, ABC10, TEGNA) City of Elk Grove handing out gift cards to keep homeless camps clean – The city of Elk Grove is paying people experiencing homelessness small amounts of money to help keep their camps clean. The program is a cost savings solution, city officials said, and also builds better relationships between the unhoused community and the Elk Grove Police Department. Every other week, city officials provide trash bags and pick up piles of trash from the camps. Afterwards, Elk Grove police officers hand out $20 gift cards that people can spend on food and personal hygiene products at stores like Dollar Tree and Raley's. (Luke Cleary, ABC10) New DoorDash convenience store coming to Roseville – DoorDash is planning to open a new convenience store in Roseville, the first location for the city. But what does a DoorDash convenience store even mean? The store is called DashMart. It's a concept that the company launched back in August 2020. It brings both household goods and local restaurant favorites to people's doorsteps on-demand. All items are curated by DoorDash. DashMart has about 3,500 items per store on average. Some of those options include cheesecake slices from The Cheesecake Factory, fresh and frozen groceries, pet food, household goods, and ready-made restaurant meals.
