Click here It's time to prepare for the upcoming fire season: Here is what Californians should know – People living in Oroville know all too well the devastation that fire season brings after last year's Bear Fire destroyed the town of Berry Creek just 17 miles away. Annie Terry lives in Oroville and worked tirelessly during the Bear Fire to bring resources to people in need through the Oroville Rescue Mission. She says the town is preparing once again. "It’s always scary to think that fire season is coming up again," Terry said. "We haven’t had enough rain this season and we know there’s a lot of dry timber still standing." Preparing your home by creating defensible space and clearing out dry brush from areas like gutters and drains is a good way to stay ahead of the wildfire season, but Placer County is also urging residents to sign-up for emergency alert systems now, rather than later. Public safety officials warn that wildfires could come earlier than usual this year. "Seconds matter. Minutes matter. And sometimes it could be a life or death situation," said Placer County Sheriff's spokesperson Angela Musallam. Surveillance video shows the driver drop off the package, take a confirmation photo with his phone, then snatch the package and leave. "The systematic way he went about it really confused me," said Grover Johnson, the Amazon customer. "To toss it in real quick, take a picture, crawl back in, take it and leave." The package contained a pair of padded sleeves that Johnson ordered for his grandson's peewee football practice. Amazon did not provide ABC10 with a comment when asked on Saturday, but more information may be forthcoming. Of the seven cities Sacramento County tracks, Galt has the third-worst COVID-19 case rate, based on data from Sacramento County. 73-year-old Steve Hansen, a resident at a senior living community called The Galt Place, has been waiting to get his coronavirus vaccine for more than three months now, with no luck. "They may remember somebody but they didn't remember us," Hansen said. (Lena Howland, ABC10) TIP OF THE DAYAuto woes Anyone looking to buy or rent a vehicle right now will likely have a tough time finding exactly what they want. New, used and rental cars are all in short supply. COVID-19 closed U.S. auto plants in the spring of 2020, and though orders are rolling in again, there’s a large backlog. Auburn mom Madison Fritter gave birth mere feet from the UC Davis Medical Center — in the parking lot — with a little help from two perfect strangers. (Eric Escalante, ABC10) |
