Gavin Newsom signed a Stimulus Package that will provide a one-time "Golden State Stimulus" payment of up to $600 or $1,200 to millions of Californians who have a low income or are experiencing hardship during COVID-19. ABC10 viewers have reached out wanting to know who is exactly eligible for the state’s stimulus payment and how can they receive it. Here’s the breakdown. Californians can qualify for the stimulus payment if you: 1) have filed your 2020 taxes, 2) are either a CalEITC recipient -or- an ITIN filer who made $75,000 or less (total CA AGI), 3) are a California resident on the date payment is issued and, 4) are not eligible to be claimed as a dependent. Sanchez, ABC10) New buddy system program in Elk Grove begins to help keep AAPI community safe from hate crimes – Elk Grove mayor Bobbie Singh-Allen said the city’s new buddy program for the Asian American Pacific Islanders community will allow people to feel more secure. The program allows people who want someone to join them on any daily activity, from walking to the grocery store or going to a doctor's appointment, to call (916) 691-5246 and be connected with a volunteer. This comes as the United States has seen a rise in anti-Asian hate crimes, including people attacked while out walking in broad daylight. (Monica Coleman, ABC10) Why this Davis parent is opting not to enroll his children in hybrid, in-person learning – The Davis Joint Unified School District (DJUSD) announced schools would reopen with a hybrid in-person learning model on April 12, but one parent says he is wary of returning to a model that still involves mostly distance learning. "It's tough to keep your kid focused, no matter how good of a kid they are, no matter how smart they are, no matter your home setting," Robert Van Ostrand, a father with two children enrolled at DJUSD, said. Ostrand said he isn't enrolling his kids in the new hybrid model primarily because DJUSD's reopening plan for in-person classes would have elementary school students in the classroom two hours a day, twice a week.
