Nomadic Matt's Tuesday Travel Tips

Hey ConvenienceBigs,

How's it going? Last week, I donated my plasma for COVID-19 research. After having the virus and being symptom-free for 28 days, I was allowed to donate my anti-body filled plasma to try and help those who are really sick. (Fingers crossed it helps!)

It was my first time donating plasma and, other than taking a long time, it was really easy. I listened to a podcast and started planning a "short road trip" (which ended up being 3 1/2 months long so I'll need to work on that! lol)

As the summer travel planning season begins, one of the questions I'm getting a lot lately is "when do you think we'll be able to travel again?"

Honestly, I have no idea. No one does.

Some countries are talking about opening up in late summer. A few Caribbean islands are eyeing next month. The EU tourism minister says "no way" to a summer travel season.

I don't think we'll have a clear picture until June.

So my advice:

I don't think anything that involves an international flight is likely to happen until August at the earliest. There might be some exceptions to this but, generally, I think it's very unlikely. I wouldn't consider booking anything before September.

And, if you do book something sooner, make sure it offers free cancellation just to be safe!!

THIS WEEK'S VIRTUAL MEET-UPS
Until we can meet again in-person (which I hope is soon), we're hosting free virtual travel events for the community:

COMMUNITY UPDATES
1. This week on Patreon, I'll be writing about some crazy hostel stories. Each week, I post photos, stories, and host a private Q&A for our Patrons. These are stories and photos I don't share on the main website. (Last week, I wrote about a trip to Jordan.)

If you'd like to read those stories and join those Q&As, considering joining our growing Patreon community
: https://www.patreon.com/nomadicmatt

You'll get access to exclusive stories and pictures I haven't written about before, free guides, free signed copies of my books, private live streams, 1-on-1 calls, my blogging course, and a bunch of other member perks. It's pretty awesome. Come check it out! :)

2. If you're looking for some new books to read, we have a monthly book club! As I voracious reader, I have tons of suggestions. Once a month, you'll get 3-5 books sent to you. You can click here to sign up. (It's free.)

COOL STUFF ON THE WEB
1. Adopt a Hostel - I wanted to reshare this again. Hostels are labors of love and operate on slim margins. This initiative is designed to help hostels survive the current storm. Please check it out.

2. For Third Culture Kids, Travel Is Home - I came across this story last year and it was an interesting look at what it's like to grow up abroad. Having lived overseas and taught "third culture" kids, I was always a bit jealous of their experience.

The Amazing Difference A Year Can Make
I've been thinking a lot about this post lately. I shared it on Facebook and I want to put it here. It's about the best worst year of my life and the lessons I learned overcoming some big life obstacles.
