How the Coronavirus will change travel (plus how I can help if you're filing a claim)

Hey ConvenienceBigs,

How are you? I hope you're staying safe (and inside)! I'm now fully recovered from my COVID experience and have been symptom-free for two weeks. I've submitted for antibody testing in hopes they can use my blood to help find a treatment. (I'm still waiting to hear back.)

As the Coronavirus transforms the world, I've been thinking a lot about the future. From how we work, travel, view government, money, and conduct our day-to-day lives, I think our society is going to be very different after this. To me, there will always now be a pre-Coronavirus world and post-Coronavirus world.

I can't say just how yet (I'm a bad futurist) but, in my gut, I know change is coming.

But let's talk about something I do know a bit about: the travel industry.

How is this going to change travel?

The travel industry relies on human movement to function. And, with countrywide lockdowns and most major airlines ceasing operations, no one is really moving right now.

Overnight, an industry that employs 10% of the world has come to a near-complete stop.

I've already seen magazines go under, people lose their jobs, and tour companies I love shut their doors forever. Hostels I love are teetering on collapse and everyone in the industry is just trying to ride this out and hope they make it through.

It will take years for the industry – and the jobs – to recover.

And, as travel is considered a luxury experience, the economic crisis is going to make the pain last even longer.

What does that mean for you?

In my recent thinkpiece, I explain where I think travel - an industry I've been in for 12 years - is heading.  (Leave a comment and let me know what you think!)

NEWS ABOUT WORLD NOMADS

While I've been using World Nomads since my first trip in 2004, I've recently heard about a lot of issues with their service from travelers.

Since I promote them a lot on my site, I want to make sure that any issues you have with them are resolved.

To address the issue, World Nomads is going to provide its underwriters with customer feedback on how to improve their service. They know they've had some problems lately and they want to fix that.

So we're gonna work with them on this.

If you have a problem with World Nomads, please email me directly at matt@nomadicmatt.com. I'll make sure your case gets passed to the right people and is resolved.

They're committed to improving their service and, as someone who has been using them for almost two decades, I want to give them this chance to do so.
