Hey all, Come winter, oceans and lakes get cold or, in places, frozen solid. That doesn't hold back the most diehard water sports enthusiasts, though. They just do the same sports – from surfing to kayaking to scuba diving – above or below frozen sheets of ice. Other hardcore types head to the hills. Or, rather, to the Himalayas. Maybe the tallest mountains on Earth have been on your bucket list too, but you just don't have the physical training to tackle them safely. Not to worry. Whatever your level of fitness, or even lack of fitness, there is a Himalayan trek for you. You can find Himalayan peaks not just in Nepal, but in northern India as well. The region's magical, wild valleys encompass glaciers, rivers, forests, even sandy deserts best crossed by camel. Here are the ones you need to explore. For a less daunting, but still rustic outdoor experience, explore the natural wonders of Wales, including one of the most beautiful beaches on the planet. Due north of Wales you could add some spice – or, rather, alcohol – to your trek on Scotland's Speyside Whisky Trail. The region isn't just full of lovely highland landscapes. It's also home to an astonishing 50 Scotch malt whiskey distilleries. There's a lot to explore, so get out there! Noelle Alejandra Salmi, outdoor editor |
