How to travel 60 MPH without a sound

View this email in your browser

Hey all,

We're thrilled that Greta Thunberg has been named Person of the Year. As you all know, we at Matador take our responsibility to the environment seriously, and are always looking for more eco-friendly ways to explore the world.

One way, of course, is to not follow in the footsteps of Instagrammers who travel irresponsibly

But, more positively, we're excited about riding electric snowmobiles to seek out the Northern Lights. They don't pollute and they zip through the forest silently -- so they don't disturb the wildlife. While "eSleds" can reach 100 km per hour, you'll travel much more slowly on an Arctic safari.

The noiseless vehicles mean you can savor the silence of the far north. You can also appreciate snowy serenity on these US hikes that are better in winter. Hiking is in fact a great way to build up some muscle strength and endurance for ski season, but to really get strong for the slopes start these nine exercises right away.

If you love being outside, but snowfall is not your thing, there's always Hawaii. Maybe you've been to the Hawaiian isles, but we'll wager you've never set foot on Niihau, Hawaii's "Forbidden Island." It's still hard to get close to Niihau, but not impossible – and we tell you how to do it. You could also explore the Rosario Islands, which are easily accessible from Cartagena, Colombia.

And for another peaceful way to see wildlife, ditch the jeep on your big African safari and go on foot. Walking safaris are better for the animals and, like electric snowmobiling, a much more immersive experience for you.

Electric snowmobiles are the most peaceful way to see the northern lights

"We had an experience, when we came to the forest, there were some reindeer. Those reindeer starting walking beside the eSleds. They weren't afraid at all. It was a very wonderful experience."

MATADOR CITY GUIDE

TRIP PLANNING

The ultimate guide to Boston

Steeped in history, rich in culture, and brimming with energy and diversity, Boston dishes up both vintage and newfangled charm. Historical landmarks dating to the first English settlers in 1630 stand alongside modern buildings of glass and steel. Immigrants helped build and still enrich Boston's many neighborhoods while students at its world-class universities infuse the city with zest, creativity, and talent. Superb local ingredients, like seafood from icy New England waters, form the backbone of many restaurant menus. Add a serious beer scene, hip cocktail bars, and a bounty of cafes, and there's no shortage of fuel to power a spin through Boston — a city brimming with superb museums, stellar sports teams, and super friendly locals.
