Hiking in leggings is actually disgusting

Hello, everyone! We've got some good stuff this Friday. Wearing surgical masks in Asia is about a lot more than just health, and we look at the deeper motives behind the trend.

Sustainability is another important touchstone for our times, and this plan for Miami makes a lot of sense. On the other hand, if you're actively looking for a paradise under the sea, Malaysia might be your best bet.

Meanwhile, Halloween is nearly upon us, and we check out the most popular candy in each state. But first...

HIKING

Hiking in leggings is actually disgusting

We get it. Stretchy leggings are just so comfortable. And they're kind of sexy. And they go so well with a brightly colored top, which definitely looks better on the 'gram. So why would you wear anything else if you go hiking? For one, you should not go hiking for the photos. Pictures are just a nice byproduct of the experience itself. Second, those bright printed leggings with sheer detailing on the side are simply the wrong choice for treks of any significant length. And it's not about us policing what women can and can't wear or what looks more legit — it's about the hard fact that leggings were simply not built for the outdoors. Here's why and what you should wear instead.

LET'S TALK ABOUT THOSE LEGGINGS

MATADOR CITY GUIDE

TRIP PLANNING

 The Ultimate Guide to Berlin

It's often said that Berlin, despite being the capital, is not Germany. Long established as a rebellious, rowdy, and particularly down-to-earth place, it goes against the grain of many national stereotypes: organization, perfection, cleanliness, even wealth. While it can be gritty and chaotic, the city nonetheless offers cultural splendors, rich architecture, and green spaces galore -- as well as world-beating nightlife, fascinating history, and some increasingly excellent cafes, bars, and restaurants. A typical weekend here can easily take a visitor through the turbulent 20th century. with stops for pop-up brunches, affordable street eats or exquisite fine dining, edgy gallery openings, and, finally, clubs that seem to never close.
