UIL approves proposal to split playoffs into divisions for several team sports

The landscape of high school sports in Texas is evolving once again.

This time, the impact on the postseason will be significant.

The University Interscholastic League legislative council met last week and passed a proposal to split the playoffs for volleyball, softball, baseball, soccer and basketball into two divisions for each classification, following the same format as football.

The change will go into effect for the 2024-25 school year and creates two state championship brackets per classification for teams to compete in.

Read more about the impact of the new playoff format.
