Fish kills are common in Pasadena this time of year. Experts explain why.
Dead fish floating in a bayou.
Seems like a strange phenomenon, but it's actually not.
When a resident walking his dog at a park in Pasadena called Harris County Pollution Control last week about seeing dead fish floating in nearby Vince Bayou, authorities investigated.
Was there something bad in the water? No, it turns out that this is a common occurrence during warmer weather, called "fish kills." Higher temperatures suck up the oxygen in the water, leaving certain types of fish gasping. Last year, a similar thing was reported in the Texas Gulf Coast.
If I see dead fish floating in a pond, or bayou, my mind goes to unnatural occurrences, like pollution, contaminants, etc. I guess I shouldn't make assumptions because nature is a mysterious thing.
