What to know about Juneteenth, the newest holiday that originated in Galveston
On Wednesday, Americans will celebrate Juneteenth, which commemorates the freedom of enslaved African Americans in Texas.
Juneteenth originated in Galveston and was celebrated for decades by African Americans before it was made a federal holiday in 2021.
