What to know about Juneteenth, the newest holiday that originated in Galveston

On Wednesday, Americans will celebrate Juneteenth, which commemorates the freedom of enslaved African Americans in Texas.

Juneteenth originated in Galveston and was celebrated for decades by African Americans before it was made a federal holiday in 2021. 

Festivities, parades, and cultural events occur throughout Texas and worldwide. If you are new to this holiday and want to know more about how you can join in the fun, check out my latest story on what to know about Juneteenth.

Cheaters Creamery will open a new brick-and-mortar location in Cy-Fair. Cheaters Creamery is an ice cream truck located in Houston metro area but will soon open a location on Barker Cypress Road, state records show. The business offers a various of flavors of ice cream with over 10 toppings. 


Shout out

Shout out to Spring ISD star athlete and recent grad Christian Nwosu as he plans to continue his football career at Harvard. Nwosu was able to accumulate around 30 offers from Division I schools such as Nebraska, Rice, Arkansas State and Syracuse before ultimately deciding to attend Harvard.
